Chris A. Knobbe
Dr. Knobbe is also the founder and president of Cure AMD Foundation, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to the prevention of vision loss from age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Dr. Knobbe has a deep interest in general nutrition, particularly as it relates to chronic degenerative disease, though his primary area of expertise is with the disorder Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness in people over the age of 65, currently affecting approximately 196 million people worldwide.
Dr Knobbe’s current research focuses substantially on omega-6 seed oil consumption as a major unifying driver of the chronic degenerative diseases of civilization, including AMD.
In my 24 years of ophthalmology practice, I watched hundreds of patients lose vision to AMD, and 2 or 3 go entirely centrally blind due to macular degeneration. I have trouble talking about the latter, publicly, because it is so emotional for me. Watching someone go blind is tragic, but it's also a travesty, because now I understand that it is entirely preventable.
Some people believe that, "We didn't have all of this disease -- heart disease, cancer, and macular degeneration (AMD), back in the 19th and early 20th centuries, because we didn't live long enough."
That belief that is based on extreme misinformation.
In fact, in the U.S. in the year 1900, 57% of both sexes were alive past age 50-54, 39% alive past age 65-69, 21% alive past age 75-79, and 12% alive past age 80.
The reason that the "average lifespan," which is actually the Life Expectancy at Birth (LEB), was only approximately 49.3 years of age, in the U.S. in 1900, is because death in childhood was extreme in that era.
For more on Life Expectancy, plus all references for these facts, and how and why this cannot possibly explain these drastic differences in chronic disease prevalence rates, please see this article "Was Age-related Macular Degeneration Rare in the 19th Century?"

I’m in the US they put seed oils in everything, anything in a box or bag! The only way to avoid seed oil and you really cannot because they feed it to animals too is to buy Whole Foods and cook them yourself. Ruminate animals have 5 chamber stomachs that can digest indigestible fiber for us so they’re the safest meats along with butter, beef tallow and lard.
Whether one wants to argue his point on seed oils, I stopped with the seed oils, why fry food. I make my food from whole foods that are boiled in home made chicken or beef broth, I make rue from flour and butter or cornstarch. Grill or bake with butter, real butter not pretend butter. I do not eat bags or boxes of food from the grocery store, is it more time consuming to make your own, yes. We make batch meals once a week and freeze them for ease of use. Buy a CGM, wear it for 14 days to see what is driving up your glucose, you will see in short order what your own body is trying to tell you. Take control of yourself, only you can do it, be grateful to these Doctors for their time, dedication and passion.
While Dr. Knobbe presents compelling historical data on seed oils, it’s astonishing that he either overlooks—or chooses to ignore—the most basic and observable driver of diabetes: sugar.
Anyone using a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) can see the immediate glucose spike after consuming cereals, soda, refined carbs, and ultra-processed foods. This isn’t theory—it’s real-time data. To sidestep sugar’s role, especially when it’s the most visible and measurable contributor to insulin resistance, is a glaring omission.
Yes, seed oils may contribute to inflammation and metabolic dysfunction, but to suggest they are the primary cause of diabetes is reductionist and misleading. Modern diabetes is a multi-factorial condition, driven by:
• Excess sugar and refined carbs
• Ultra-processed foods
• Chronic stress and poor sleep
• Sedentary lifestyles
• Circadian disruption
To ignore these and focus solely on seed oils is not just incomplete—it risks misinforming people who are trying to make meaningful changes to their health. We need systems-level thinking, not single-cause narratives. Let’s empower people with real data, real tools, and real context—not oversimplified theories.
So if the increase in body size increases with the amount of oils consumed, while the carbohydrate has remained steady, what really is the correlation? Seems to me the increase in oils is also an increase in mass of food. At least that's what could be seen in the data presented. Do the oils displace the fats people ate before or are they additional food mass? In other words is there something specifically bad about the oils or are people just plain eating too much?
I do have a problem with this video : correlation is just correlation !!!!
I'm French and the most popular (and recommended) cooking fats are sunflower oil and Canola oil....both are industrial oils.
There are a lot of cultural difference between France's culture and other countries that may explain this paradox.
Humans are hyper-carnivores. The more plants we eat, the more health problems we develop. That's all you need to know. When you eat anything other than meat, eggs, and water, you will develop health problems. Look up carnivore diet right here on YouTube. That is the answer, the key to a good life. Carnivore.
