Lesson One in Twelve 15 Minute Topics.
If you are overweight, have type II diabetes, you are not sleeping well, maybe you are losing the ability to run or climb stairs, it's probably taken 20 or 30 years for you to get that way. If you understand how to develop new lifestyle habits you can achieve a remarkable transformation in as little as three months.
The secret is to begin with your knowledge and understanding. Without new knowledge, all you can do is repeat your previous behaviour. In the next lesson we will be more specific about how to change your diet, but for now, understand that for most of us, dietary change is essential.
You may have someone in your life encouraging you to exercise more, perhaps to exercise a lot. That's NOT the best strategy until you are close (within 10kg) to your target weight. That does not exclude walking, or some strength building body weight exercises if you can do them.
500 park runs? Once a week for 5 years. Almost once a week over 10 years, beginning at 70. Great achievement.
The change we want in the first few months, is to reduce the fat in and around your liver, kidneys and pancreas. This internal fat is preventing these organs from functioning efficiently. I'm told that liver fat is the first to go on a very-low carbohydrate diet. Later kidney function should improve, and finally your pancreas will get a chance to repair itself.

In the first few days on a Banting Diet or a very low carbohydrate diet, there may be rapid apparent weight loss, as the body sheds water. Then maybe a stable period according to the scales. However, a tape measure around the waist may record changes. Many people in the first week or two develop "keto flu" which is easy to correct. No need to be concerned.
