Three years ago I started having conversations with many of our founding members below about how we can start creating real change in the UK for improving the health of our nation, which is getting worse year upon year despite all of our best efforts.

The one thing that we kept going back to, was to collaborate our efforts into one singular organisation, to inform the public and empower the medical community on the science and solutions of health. Over a melting pot of ideas we founded the Public Health Collaboration, or the PHC for short.

The Board of Directors includes many well known representatives of the health practitioners community. Several of them have expert profiles in the Open Future Health website.

The Public Health Collaboration, is strongly supported by many doctors and health researchers in the UK.

Since then we have run two excellent conferences, and there is a 2018 conference planned for Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th May, 2018.

There are also three publications, "Health Eating Guidelines and Weight Loss Advice for the United Kingdom." (40 pages), "Eat Fat, Cut the Carbs and Avoid Snacking to Reverse Type II Diabetes." (Booklet 19 pages.), and a four page leaflet, "Real Food Lifestyle."

Cardiologists and diabetes educators who are all well connected to help make a difference. The PHC also wants to engage more nutritional therapists to work alongside GP’s to support patients to become more empowered about their health and receive a more personalised model of medicine.

"Achieving and Maintaining Nutritional Ketosis"

In the UK 25% of adults are obese, one of the highest prevalences in Europe, and type 2 diabetes has risen by 65% in the past 10 years with no sign of slowing down. Together they cost the NHS £16 billion a year and the UK economy at large £47 billion a year. These perilous percentages and shocking statistics have presented themselves despite the fact that as a population we are closely following the dietary advice that is being recommended to us.

Based on the latest National Diet and Nutrition Survey published in 2014 by Public Health England, our total food consumption is on average 383 calories below the recommended, our total fat consumption is just below the recommended 35%, we're just one portion shy of the recommended 5 fruits and vegetables a day, and lastly we're only 1 g over the recommended amount of daily red meat intake.

So it seems that we are generally following the advice we've been given, but it's not making us healthier! Arguably, the current advice has got us into our current sticky situation.

A complete overhaul is needed for our dietary advice based on the scientific evidence in order to improve our nation's health, and we believe that the PHC is the team for the job but that is only possible with your support.

If the video won't play this link should work.

To achieve their mission to inform and implement healthy decisions for better public health they produce reports and research, which informs and empowers patients and doctors. They review the NHS recommended Healthy Eating Guidelines and question what evidence is used and what the results are. As a nation we are told that we are more or less, eating the right amounts of fat, carbohydrates, red meat, fruit and vegetables but obesity and diabetes has significantly increased in the last 20 years.

The information that the Healthy Eating Guidelines gives us is clearly not working and many researchers question the conflict between the food companies and manufacturers that sit on the board for such guidance. An example of the work that can be accomplished by the PHC is supporting a GP/Nurse to advise patients with type 2 diabetes to follow a low carb, real food diet. They have seen that over time the surgery can spend £40,000 less on drugs for these patients. If all surgeries followed this example, the NHS could save £350m on diabetes drugs alone. The PHC has 12 scientific advisors on board which include GPs.
